A fresh realtor just made his first house sale, and he should be celebrating a bright future. However, the sound of a baby crying at midnight leaves him unsettled. Alone, he drowns his sorrows and leaves unanswered voice messages for his ex-girlfriend.

The nuanced and sincere performances, combined with the camera’s skilful framing and lighting, create a suffocatingly realistic atmosphere. Even in outdoor parking lot scenes, the protagonist is confined within the lines of a parking space. The film employs a unique food metaphor, with the rotting pineapple symbolising the anguish of a lost child weighing on his heart. The imagined sound of a baby crying, paired with the noise of ants gnawing at the pineapple mixed with the sounds of human consumption, deepens the metaphor through disjointed sound design. -Qi Wu.
