Big Trouble in Little China

1h 39m Action, Thirller, B-movie 1986

妖魔大鬧小神州/妖魔大闹唐人街

John Carpenter’s janky and cheesy cult classic Big Trouble in Little China hybridised the action, adventure, and comedy genres. In the magical underbelly of San Francisco’s Chinatown evil sorcerer Lo Pan aims for world domination, his key is the blood and life of a woman with rare green eyes. City dwellers Jack Burton and Wang Chi must go on a quest to save Miao Yin, Wang’s fiancé, who Lo Pan has kidnaped. With Chinese gangs, martial arts, and over-the-top costumes, all characters are caricatures of themselves. Big Trouble in Little China’s excessive 80s campiness plays parody Westerns and Orientalist stereotypes, amalgamating in complete satire and nonsensical fun. - Daniella Alconaba
