The director, Ng Kam Ha, was a San Francisco Chinese who directed nine Cantonese films in Hong Kong and the United States in the 1930s and 1940s. She was the first overseas Chinese woman director to direct a Hong Kong film, and a woman who was independent and ahead of her time.
