Gone People

A tender and quietly surreal glimpse into loneliness, family, and the longing to be reunited, somewhere between a folk tale, a family memory, and a village portrait. Through Weihong, an old man in rural Chaoshan who discovers he can see his deceased relatives gathering on the eve of Qingming, the film turns an otherworldly vision into something deeply familiar: the hope of seeing those we have lost. Drawn from the director’s own family and brought to life by local villagers in their real surroundings, it embraces the stillness of rural life and the emotions left unspoken. After all, sometimes seeing someone again is simply another way of remembering them.
