Ma Xiang
马巷/馬巷
Every year, Chinese families throughout the country reunite to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival, a national holiday which commemorates the death of Qu Yuan, a chinese hero and poet. Over the three-day festival, families share customs and traditional food. such as zongzi, which have been passed from generation to generation.
Zongzi, sticky rice cooked in bamboo leaves, was traditionally thrown intorivers, as the myth says that this way fish would eat the dumpling ratherthan the body of Qu Yuan, who drowned himself in the Miluo river.
This is the reunion of three generations of the Xu family, along with their friends and neighbors, which took place on Ma Xiang street in Xiamen.
