Presented by Odyssey and the School of Journalism and Communication, Shandong Normal University, this programme introduces new voices from Shandong’s emerging filmmakers. It aims to deepen cultural ties between Shandong and the UK, offering vivid stories of local life while fostering collaboration through training, co-productions, and exchanges between British and Chinese film professionals.
Shandong, a coastal province in East China, is both an economic powerhouse and a cultural heartland. Known as the home of Confucius and a cradle of Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism, it is also famous worldwide for Qingdao beer — a symbol of its openness to international exchange. The province maintains close ties with the UK, with recent dialogues further strengthening business and cultural connections.
The School of Journalism and Communication is a leading hub for film and media training, equipped with cutting-edge labs and studios. In recent years, its students and staff have produced more than 300 works — from Red Sorghum (TV version) to Yao – Chinese Folktales — earning both national and international recognition.
